Country and region/state codes not conforming to ISO 3166-1 and 3166-2

Asset Suite 6 has 2 character Country_Code and 2 character State.

How have users of Asset Suite worked around this?

Current client is thinking of updating the AS data dictionary so that State, TIG01587, can hold ISO 3166-2 values and is qualified by Country, TIG08447 holding ISO 3166-1 values.
