AWI on handhelds running Windows Mobile 6.5

AWI (Portal/J 10.0.7 equivalent) running under Citrix XenApp accessed in browser mode.

Problem with screen display. Appears that Citrix display panel is too large for handheld device and the AWI display doesn't fit well. Not positive about this, but the Citrix display size is defined at Citrix farm level, ie, it's the same for all applications launched on XenApp which means it's unlikely to be tailorable specifically for AWI.

Older handheld devices, eg, Intermec CK3 with QVGA display running Windows Mobile 6.1, display AWI very well. AWI looks good and with the Citrix display it takes up the whole display. The user has a hard time to get to the Windows desktop.

Best settings found for Windows Mobile 6.5:

XenApp Settings. Window Size = Percentage of screen. Percentage of screen = 100%. See attached "XenApp settings % of screen=100".

Need to try all &DisplayMode=2, 3, 4, 5 values suffixed on the AWI launch URL and describe differences. Reference page 10 of the AWI Install Guide.

Launch AWI and the user is presented with Internet Explorer completely filling the Citrix display with the AWI logon chopped on the right side. See attached "AWI logon WM 6.5".

User logs into AWI and clicks Inventory to see panel in attachment "AWI Inventory WM 6.5".

Internet Explorer being in the background is a real problem. If the user clicks IE, uh oh, now IE is in the foregound and how to get back to AWI? One method is to use Citrix Gestures to maximize IE and right click past the top of the display hoping to activate the IE drop down list including "minimize" so IE can be minimized.

Notice also that the Windows desktop is peeking through the bottom of the display under the Citrix display. See attachment "AWI browser mode desktop peeking through WM 6.5".

The user clicks the Windows Start icon and they are into Windows. See attachment "AWI WM 6.5 user found Windows desktop".

Citrix XenApp Window size = Seamless and &DisplayMode=5

Good results with XenApp Settings with Window size = Seamless and launch URL for AWI having &DisplayMode=5 (Simulator Mode, full VGA).

AWI panel takes up about 90% of the handheld's display and snaps back if the user pushes it to the left, right, or down. If the user pushes it up it doesn't quite come all the way back and the user can scoot it down with their finger easily. Display is not as good as device with QVGA display, eg, Intermec CK3.

Windows desktop does peek through at the bottom and accessing the desktop makes AWI disappear. Task Manager can be used to "Switch To" AWI and it comes back fine.

Need to follow up with Citrix XenApp display resolution settings.

Hack to force QVGA

Well written blog about QVGA apps running on Windows Mobile full VGA devices.

Have not tested as of December 2011.

Remote Desktop Mobile on VGA

Here's a blog that says the display is fixed and cannot be changed. Don't know how to tell if deviced has LCD screen. Windows Mobile 6.5 LCD screen cannot change resolution

Windows Mobile 6.5 Classic doesn't have Windows\System\SysCache

Windows Mobile 6.5 Classic, CE OS 5.2.23145.

File Explorer shows Windows containing wpctsc. It is not possible to use Menu > Edit > Paste to replace it. Received pop up box "Confirm File Replace" with "A system file named 'WPCTSC' already exists. Replace the existing file 100K, 10/7/10, 7:23:08 PM with this one? 102K, 9/2/11, 3:05:52 PM". Click Yes and receive pop up box "Error Copying File", "Canot copy 'WPCTSC': Access is denied."

Copying wpctsc to "Main memory" fails with pop up box "Zip Mobile", "Unable to extract to a read-only location".

Copying wpctsc to "Flash File Store" and the main directory of the micro SDHC card, reboot, access AWI via Citrix. Doesn't seem to matter.

Might be that the Citrix Receiver client on the handheld doesn't use wpctsc. Notice that while accessing AWI, Windows Task Manager does not show wpctsc as a running process.

Have not been able to find an older version of Citrix Receiver than 11.5 for Windows Mobile 6.5.

Intermec CK71 micro SDHC card install

Micro SDHC card slides into the lifting silver bracket hinged on the top. It slides in easily and catches on fingers on either side. Lower the bracket and it snaps into place easily. The larger bracket hinged on the left is lowered and then slid right into a lock position. When done correctly it fits together with ease.

The Intermec CK71 SDHC card cover on the back has a very strong magnet about the size of the zero on the keyboard. Without the magnet in place, the unit will not boot.
